8 Days Northern Tour FROM TANGIER To the Desert
Itinerary of the desert tour from Tangier:
Day 1: Tangier – Tetouan – Chefchaouen
We will start the tour from Tangier with a pass near Tetouan and across the Rif Mountains. At the base of the Rif mountains near Chefchaouen, we’ll take a break so that you may fully absorb the breathtaking panorama. Chefchaouen’s medina, which was once a part of “Spanish Morocco,” has a strong Spanish architectural influence, and its courtyard is surrounded by vibrant artisan stores. It also includes a number of rooftop cafes and restaurants, many of which are also available in the riads, where you may spend the rest of the evening while taking in the beautiful scenery and the strong wind.
Day 2: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes
Following a hearty breakfast, we continue on our Tangier tour to Volubilis, passing via Ouazan and other Rif towns. We’ll go to Volubilis to explore the Roman ruins and discover the history of Morocco. We will have lunch in Meknes before visiting Bab el Mansour, the Moulay Ismail holy site, the old medina walls, and more. Later on in the day, we’ll depart for Fes, where we’ll spend the night.
Day 3: Exploring Fes
On the third day of our tour from Tangier after crawling through its alleyways and congested streets, we’ll begin our day by exploring the oldest Moroccan city. The entrance to the Royal Palace will serve as the starting point of our journey. From there, we’ll go to the Jewish headquarters, where the first Mellah in Morocco was founded in the sixteenth century. The famed Al Qaraouine University, the oldest institution in the area, will be among the many historical and cultural sites you will see. Additionally, stops will be made at the Tanneries, Attarine Museum, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss. Several farms will be visited after lunch, and then you’ll see the Medina of Fes up close and in magnificent fashion.
Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga ( tour from Tangier)
The day begins with a trip to the Atlas Mountains, with a halt in Ifrane to see the magnificent cedar forest, which is home to the Berber apes. Our next stop will be Midelt, which we’ll reach through the Ziz Gorge and the Tiz Ntalghamt Mountain Pass (where we can take photos and drink some local mint tea). Moving on, we make our way to Merzouga, where we will camp for the night.
Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Gorge
We will get up on the fifth day of our tour from Tangier and head to a nearby hotel so you can get ready and have a great breakfast before we depart for Ouarzazate. While traveling to the Todra and Dades Gorges, we will make stops at Berber villages. We’ll stop at a neighboring motel in the Dades Gorge and stay there that night.
Day 6: Dades valley – Rose valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakesh
After breakfast, we will proceed on the Route des Mille Kasbahs (fortresses) toward Ouarzazate, pausing in Kalaat Mgouna, the center of the Valley of Roses, which is well-known for its annual Rose Festival. We’ll then travel by automobile through Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Later, our tour from Tangier will reach the red city of Marrakech.
Day 7: Marrakesh Sightseeing
Our tour from Tangier is incomplete without a planned journey to Marrakech. Today, a tour of Marrakech will be arranged for us. The best attractions in the city, including the well-known Jamma el-Fna Square, the Koutoubia Mosque, the souks, palaces, and museums, will be seen by you.
